Shingles Shots???

Many of you have asked if after you receive a Shingles shot, are there any restrictions about coming to volunteer in the hospital afterwards?  The official answer is that you may continue to come in as always with no restrictions.  However, if you work in any high risk area such as Special Care Nursery, babies or Oncology, you must check in with Employee Health if you develop a rash around the site of the shot .

Clip for the Cause

The auxiliary has a new ongoing project!  It’s now collecting and donating unused manufacturer’s coupons for food and grocery products and sending them to be used by military members and their families to help stretch their budgets.  Volunteers have operated the Overseas Coupon Project for seventeen years. No financial assistance is requested, just your unused coupons. These coupons are greatly welcomed and appreciated by our military families.

All you have to do is drop off any unused coupons in the basket in the auxiliary office.  No need to cut and trim them neatly, our volunteers will do so.  Because it is the military, they will accept coupons which have expired up to three months prior to receipt.  So tell your neighbors and friends and start saving those coupons from the Sunday newspaper or your recent magazines.  The ones we collect will be donated to the U.S. Air Force Base in Osan, Korea.

This is such a simple, no cost way to show support to our military!

CPR ANYTIME

An Auxiliary- Sponsored Community Awareness Program

CPR Anytime was created to increase the number of laypeople trained as CPR rescuers to ensure an adequate CPR bystander response when an emergency occurs.  Seventy five-to-eighty percent of all deaths due to sudden cardiac arrest take place at home.  The first ten minutes after a heart attack are crucial to recovery.  Emergency assistance often takes longer than that to respond.

CPR Anytime is a personal learning, self-instructional and non-credentialed CPR training program that’s easy to use at home.  Users learn the core skills of CPR using a DVD and a “practice-while-you-watch” technique on a realistic personal training manikin.  When kits are taken home and shared an average of three persons also learn CPR!  Kits can be used again and again for ongoing training and review.  Techniques for relieving choking are also included.

These kits, which are sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, are being sold in the auxiliary gift shops at a cost of $34.95.  They make wonderful gifts for your family and friends as well as for you.  So help us spread the word to reach the community as well as all internal staff and volunteers.  The auxiliary can truly help save lives!
